The last thing you want is for your trip to Lagos to be interrupted by illness or an accident, but sometimes life doesn’t go to plan, and when sickness strikes, you’ll be glad of the CRI Medical Clinic.

If you find yourself facing a medical emergency, it’s comforting to know that the two phone numbers above are always operational, and just in case the lines are busy, there are a further two numbers that will get you through to CRI: +234 1 818 0335 and +234 805 729 2226.

CRI provides a multitude of services (see below) all of which are coordinated through their emergency call center, which is manned round the clock by trained medical personnel.

The clinic also takes walk-in registrations.

WHEN CAN I VISIT?

The clinic’s opening times are as follows:

Mon – Fri: 07:00 – 19:00

WHO ARE CRI?

Founded in 2001, Critical Rescue International was Nigeria’s first company to provide emergency medical services. In the years that followed CRI has earned a solid reputation internationally as an excellent provider of medical care, as well as a host of other services including industry health care and first-aid training.

CRI operate from three offices, one in VGC, one in Port Harcourt and a third in Ikeja (Oba Akran), the capital of Lagos State.

WHICH INSURANCE COMPANIES DO CRI WORK WITH?

CRI are affiliated with BUPA (UK insurance provider) and with AXA (a provider in France), and provide cover for ex-pats as well international medical insurance and travel health insurance. So be sure to arrange insurance before you travel, and you’ll be in the best possible hands.

WHAT DOES CRI DO?

CRI’s work can be broken down into three main service areas:

  1. CRI Assist. This covers CRI’s world-class emergency medical services. This is what’s going to get you back on your feet when things go wrong.
  2. CRI Academy. These are the teams of experienced professionals who provide first-aid training in the work place.
  3. CRI Industrial Health. This is the wide range of services provided to workers. CRI have an impressively wide scope and their industrial health unit covers everything from occupational health testing and susbstance misuse testing, to the outsourcing of medical personnel for offshore clinical operations.

To help carry out their vast range of services, CRI have a fleet of well-equipped intensive care ambulances, driven and staffed by trained doctors and nurses in Nigeria. CRI also offer other services through their call centre, such as telecounseling, claims investigations, organising doctors’ visits and even coordinating and organising medical evacuations.

WHAT ABOUT SPECIAL EVENTS?

CRI have recently formed partnerships with big name public brands, like Knorr, Maltina Dance Hall and Nokia, to provide medical back-up at large events in Nigeria. When you’re enjoying yourself at a corporate event, high profile sports game or music concert, it’s reassuring to see CRI’s highly-equipped fleet of ambulances on standby.

AND EMERGENCIES?

It’s not just planned events that have benefited from CRI’s help. Sadly in recent history there have been numerous natural and accidental disasters, such as flooding, or stampedes and riots at sports stadiums. This means that specialised disaster relief is more in demand than ever before. Responding to this need, CRI have worked hard to develop competent disaster management strategies, and are operating with some success. When the tragic ammunition dump explosion happened in Ikeja in 2002, CRI were quick to respond.

I’M A TRAVELLER AND I’M SICK! CAN CRI HELP ME?

In short, yes. As CRI operate a walk-in registration system, you can walk in and be seen immediately. Their emergency services are covered by corporate as well as private health insurance packages.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE STAFF?

CRI know that when it comes to emergency medical treatment every second – and every decision – counts, so to ensure you have the best possible chance of making a full recovery, all staff undergo regular and rigorous specialised training.

There is a friendly atmosphere in the clinic. Attentive staff will greet you with a smile and are on hand to help in any way they can.

WHAT ABOUT THEIR TECHNOLOGY?

Time and again medical studies show that, in critical circumstances, the faster a patient receives treatment, the better chance she or he has of survival. Thankfully, CRI’s clinic is equipped with contemporary technology. In short, they bring the hospital to you. Their ambulances are stocked with the latest rescue technology and those running CRI make sure the clinics are linked to the latest medical developments, as they happen. CRI uses software platforms that have, over the last few years, been integrated in South Africa. This means that they can offer patients a well-run, safe and efficient medical trauma and advice centre, that has been specially customised to suit African conditions.

BUT I THINK I NEED TO GO TO A SPECIALIST HOSPITAL

CRI’s clinics operate to an international standard, but if it’s a specialist hospital you need, they also have a nationwide network of secondary providers, to make sure you end up in the best place to get the care you need.

I WANT TO GO HOME!

One of CRI’s many services is patient evacuation. This means that they can arrange to transport you from Nigeria to anywhere else in the world. To access this service call +234 0808 274 0000, or send email assist@crinigeria.com

IN GOOD HANDS

So, if disaster strikes and you end up having to change your holiday plans and schedule a trip to the doctors, CRI is close at hand. And it’s comforting to know that their moto is ‘care delayed is care denied’ – meaning they’ll be with you as soon as they can.
